Description

Quiet one-way street between Harmoniepark and Leien, with the green Vinkenhof as a neighbour, close to fine local shops, schools and public transport. Those looking for charm and authenticity in the heart of the city have literally come to the right place.

Handsome piece of architectural heritage, part of the 'ensemble of three bourgeois houses' in art-nouveau style, built by contractor J.B.C. Van Dooren-Jochems, to a 1905 design. Magnificent art-nouveau facade with original mosaic frieze, authentic window arrangement and beautiful ironwork. Note the magnificent peacock in mosaic at the top.

Entrance with marble staircase and immediately left the full basement. To the front a handy (bicycle) storage room and guest toilet on original terrazzo floor. At the back the multi-purpose room: ideal as office, practice, workshop, hobby or linen room, with rinsing table, connection for washing machine, access to the dry cellar and the Provencal city garden.

On the semi-bell floor (+0.5) at the front is the spacious, fully installed kitchen with countertop in natural stone, cupboards in Volkern and cosy breakfast nook at the original guillotine window (high-efficiency glass). At the back: attractive living space with herringbone parquet flooring, gas fireplace, library and again access to the fine city garden.

At +1: master bedroom on fresh, white plank flooring, with fitted wardrobes and ensuite bathroom (shower, bath, washbasin, bidet, WC, A/C and sunscreen), and the 2nd spacious bedroom on original plank flooring. The beautiful 3rd and 4th bedrooms are one floor higher, at +2.

Double glazing throughout and 8 solar panels.

The magnificent facade in this blissful street charmed us from the start.
The owners,

owner speaks out

Twenty beautiful years we spent with pleasure in this lovely house. The magnificent façade charmed us from the start; we did everything possible to preserve its authenticity. Even after the necessary adaptations, the character of the house remained intact.

The spacious, smart layout of the house also fully met our needs. The basement, which we used as a multi-purpose room, turned out to be a great added value for us. Over the years, that space has already been used for different purposes, which was very handy. The four rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors also each had their own purpose and character. What they all have in common is that each room is blissfully quiet. Thanks to the transverse positioning of the staircase, you can enjoy the entire width of the house in the living room and the lovely little city garden is the place to be on sunny days.

We think Jan Blockxstraat is one of the nicest and quietest streets in town, a street where all the neighbours still know each other and everyone keeps an eye on each other in a very relaxed way. From here you can also go shopping, take a walk in the nearby park or go to the arterial roads. To the centre of Antwerp, we always go on foot or by bike. So we leave this place with mixed feelings, and with many good memories.
