Description

Discover the pure tranquillity of Groot Begijnhof, a village within the city, close to the lively centre of Mechelen.

In 1993, the Saint Dominic Convent was completely rebuilt. Many authentic features were preserved or carefully restored. Today, its historic character blends beautifully with contemporary comfort and quality materials. The house is exceptionally spacious and very well maintained.

Entrance hall with guest toilet. To the right, the inviting living room features parquet flooring, a bay window, plenty of natural light and views of the garden. The low, open bookshelves conceal the radiators. The practical kitchen is thoughtfully designed, with typical Dutch-style windows and a convenient waste disposal system.

The dining room and sunroom open onto the garden through large French doors. Thanks to the folding doors, they can be combined into one generous living space. The sunny, intimate garden is a delightful outdoor retreat in the heart of Groot Begijnhof.

Also on the ground floor: a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and mezzanine, a utility room with built-in cupboards and access to the garden. An adjoining rented garage and small rear garden complete the property.

The first floor offers three bedrooms, a second bathroom, separate toilet and space for a home office. A cellar and spacious attic with fixed staircase offer further possibilities.

A truly special home in a truly special setting, in the heart of Groot Begijnhof in Mechelen.

owner speaks out

We grew up here and have always loved this house. It is charming and full of character, yet surprisingly practical: a home where every little detail has been thoughtfully considered. The direct access from the utility room to the garage, for example, is incredibly convenient.
The ground-floor bedroom was particularly special to us. Its double-height ceiling and view of the small additional garden create a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. From the bedroom, you step straight into the sunniest spot in the house. This is where we enjoyed our first coffee in the morning, a little everyday pleasure.
