Few Belgian architects have left such an eye-catching, extensive and diverse body of work as Léon Stynen. He was an important and authoritative exponent of modernism in Belgium.
His fame is based not only on the quality of his work, but also on his role in education and the organisation of the architectural profession.
For the many row houses and villas in Antwerp and the Antwerp Kempen region, he made generous use of the jargon of 'new building'. Porthole windows, steel parapets and boat ladders feature frequently in Stynen's oeuvre.
